A new poll of northeast Fresno has one city council candidate holding a commanding lead early on in the race.
Attorney and small business owner Roger Bonakdar leads the pack by a significant margin, holding nearly 40 percent of support in District 6.

The big picture: FP Research surveyed 500 likely voters in District 6, with Bonakdar coming in at 38.4 percent support.
- Justin St. George placed second at 13.4 percent, while Nick Rchardson and Raj Sodhi-Layne followed behind at 9 percent and 6.6 percent, respectively.
- Many voters are so far undecided this early on, with 32.6 percent of surveyed voters not supporting any candidate yet.
Go deeper: Along with the city council race, the survey also polled District 6 residents for their preference in the Fresno County Supervisor District 2 race and for Measure E.
- For the Fresno County Board of Supervisors, District 6 voters favor their current councilman Garry Bredefeld 53.5 percent in the race.
- Incumbent Steve Brandau is supported by 18.2 percent of District 6 respondents. Brandau’s District 2 supervisor seat covers the northeast Fresno council district as well as much of northwest Fresno and parts of central Fresno.
- Fresno County Assessor-Recorder Paul Dictos is running less than five points behind Brandau in northeast Fresno, registering 13.39 percent support in the City Council district.
- The survey also found that northeast Fresno likely voters overwhelmingly oppose Measure E, the 0.25 percent sales tax initiative that would generate around $1.6 billion over 25 years for Fresno State academic and athletics facilities and programs.
- There were 62.76 percent of respondents who would vote against Measure E, while 22.18 percent support it. The remaining 15.06 percent were undecided.
- FP Research conducted the survey from Aug. 17-19 and has a 95 percent confidence interval.
